The HY Connect Yamaha Outboards team flew south for the winter—and the Miami International Boat Show.® One of the world’s largest boat shows—if not the largest—it features nearly 2,000 exhibitors and attracts boaters from all across the globe. We were right there with them, observing what prospective buyers sparked to, interacted with and made a point of learning more about.
We also had the opportunity to see Yamaha’s crisp, new branding, larger than life on its tradeshow materials. For weeks, we’d been working on the booth graphics at 25 percent; so it was exciting to finally see them life-sized. Among them were pieces announcing the launch of the all-new YamahaOutboards.com, and Yamaha’s much-talked-about mobile app (the industry’s first outboard-specific app). Outside of the Yamaha booth, we joined the Marine Marketers of America for a seminar on social media, attended a breakout on fuel additives and did some good ol’ fashioned competitive recon. By the last day of our trip, it was time to get out of the convention center and onto the water—at the in-water show across the bay.
Docked across the Biscayne Bay were hundreds of bay and offshore boats, just waiting to give prospective buyers a taste of the technology. For us, spending an afternoon on the water is all about talking shop with Yamaha’s in-house experts and knowledgeable pro anglers. That’s the kind of insight you just can’t get in a conference call or business meeting.
It was a whirlwind trip, with the current of Yamaha activity carrying us all the way back to Milwaukee. We’ve been heads down ever since. There’s tons of exciting stuff in the works. Trust us when we say that 2012 is going to be an exciting year on the water. For now, check out some of the other great work we’ve done for Yamaha Outboards.
