HY Connect behind striking five-story display featuring characters from Dr. Seuss’s “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas”

CHICAGO, Ill. (Nov. 21, 2011) – The tens of thousands of visitors to Water Tower Place in the coming weeks will be treated to a taste of the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago’s (MSI) Christmas Around the World and Holiday of Lights holiday exhibits. There are even some of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters on display, as a tie in to the There’s Fun to Be Done! Dr. Seuss & The Art of Invention temporary exhibit currently running at MSI. This year marks the 70th anniversary of this signature MSI exhibit and Chicago holiday tradition, as well as the first year MSI is extending the experience beyond its walls in such a large scale. The display at Water Tower Place, which was installed over four nights, allows holiday shoppers to begin engaging with the MSI exhibits via interactive kiosks at the mall.

“It was important for us to create the kind of hands-on and fun experience that the Museum is all about,” said HY Connect VP Creative Director Tony Bonilla.

Water Tower Place visitors will come face-to-face with a five-story depiction of Dr. Seuss’s Christmas-stealing Grinch, which decorates the elevator. They can also stop at one of three, 42-inch digital displays to learn about Christmas traditions around the world. The interactive touch screens feature a program designed by HY Connect that invites people to build their own custom Christmas tree by selecting a country and then dragging and dropping ornaments that reflect that country’s culture and traditions. After decorating their tree, visitors can email their creation to themselves and receive a voucher for $5 off general admission to MSI.

“The Water Tower installation is the perfect teaser to our Christmas Around the World exhibit,” said MSI VP and Chief Marketing Officer Rob Gallas. “We hope people will be compelled to make it to the Museum to see the real thing.”

The Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Lights exhibit presented by Walgreens, and sponsored by Pepsi, runs now through January 8. There’s Fun to Be Done! Dr. Seuss & The Art of Invention is presented by Walgreens and brought to you by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. The Art of Dr. Seuss Retrospective Exhibition and Traveling Sculpture Garden is organized by Chase Art Companies and curator William W. Dryer. For more information, visit
