The 2014 Color of the Year

Have you ever noticed that certain colors are suddenly everywhere? The blue GAP sweater matches the glassware at Macy’s which matches the chair at Crate + Barrel?

It’s no coincidence. Color trends are spotted and identified by the Pantone Color Institute® and serve as a guide for many industries when making color selections.

The institute recently announced that the 2014 Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid, an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the PCI describes Radiant Orchid as “an invitation to innovation…encourag[ing] expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

HY Connect’s creative teams pay attention to this trend, too. We incorporate the color of the year into all branding components for our client, Design Center at the Merchandise Mart. The Design Center clientele is very discerning about home fashion trends, so using the latest palette solidifies the Center’s position as a style leader. As the color changes from year to year, so does our campaign, which keeps the work fresh and surprising. Just like a new sweater.
