Making an Impression at the 2013 International Home and Housewares Show

Trade shows are big business. Elaborate booths where new products are previewed and sales meetings take place behind closed doors. Getting editorial coverage in the media is an essential piece of the trade show equation to maximize exposure and give consumers a peek behind the booth.

It is always a challenge to coordinate media’s schedules and capture their attention with so many competing brands. Breaking through the clutter to get our client’s products national media coverage is the mission of the HY Connect Earned Media team, and this year we were very successful.


On behalf of our client Wahl Clipper Corporation we worked with Consumer Products Insider David Gregg to develop and distribute a “Housewares Highlights” segment for national TV and radio media. The production showcased the diversity of Wahl products featured at the Housewares Show, from men’s grooming tools such as the new Lithium Ion Beard and Stubble Trimmer, new Hot-Cold Therapy Massaging Gel Pack, and three new pet products that will keep pets smelling fresh. The Wahl lineup was in good company as they were featured alongside products from three other non-competing but influential brands. The spot aired on network TV affiliates in 10 of the nation’s top 30 markets, as well as on nationally syndicated radio. The effort generated an impressive 5.6 million impressions.
