A Visual is Worth 1,000 Clicks

We all want our target audience to click, like, comment, share, re-tweet, blog, digg, and tag the content we put out there. The best way to trigger this kind of action now is through eye-catching visuals. Not only are people inherently visual, images can elicit quicker and more powerful responses than text alone, especially when paired with strong content. So, before you post to social media, consider if there is a visual way to tell your story. And this isn’t just about scanning through Google images. Think about visuals that are “on brand” and aesthetically pleasing.

Below are a few examples of the types of visuals we use to help us share our client’s brand stories:

  • Infographics: These help simplify a complex story, showcase an array of data, and get the point across in a clever way. Infographics especially sit well with Millennia’s, who have little patience to read lengthy reports. Infographics are also notorious for going viral and if branded properly, can help drive web traffic and SEO. Check out this infographic we recently created for our client Wahl to tell the story about how guys who cut their own hair have many other adventurous (and attractive) qualities:

  • Topic Clouds: Need to share some key words or phrases? This is the best way to do it. Topic clouds can help with anything from top 10 lists to breaking down findings in research. They are easy to understand, create and visually represent the point you are trying to make. Did I mention they are also really easy to read?
  • Photography: Writing a social post? Further get your point across and post it with the right image. In the world of Facebook, photos are top dog and according to social analytics company SimplyMeasure, users are twice more likely to like photos than text updates. In addition, at the quick rate that Instagram is growing, and the fact that Pinterest is referring more traffic than Google, there is really something to say about the strong presence of photography and what you can do with it. 

With the number of social outlets to share images, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr and Instagram and the fact that they are only expected to grow; visuals, when paired with the right content, will continue to be an important player in the story telling of brands and lead to their overall triumph on social platforms.
